Public Works

The Wilmington Public Works Department is responsible for providing a variety of services ranging from street repairs to water and sewer system operation and maintenance. The Public Works Department is charged with repairing and maintaining approximately 350 lane miles of City streets.  These services include street sweeping, snow plowing, maintenance of street lights, parkway tree care, and the initiation of new construction.

Public Works provides high-quality water and sewer services to the residents and businesses in Wilmington. In order to meet the daily consumption rate of local residents and businesses, the department operates multiple pump stations which deliver water through many miles of water main, multiple fire hydrants, and thousands of water service connections. Services include water meter repairs and installation, maintaining water and sewer facilities, and water treatment and distribution. Public Works also operates the City’s Waste Water System.
